Industrial opulence unites our collection of venues at Work Nicer Rail Yards in the Ramsay Design Centre. With soaring exposed ceilings, brick walls and chandeliers, our rooms range from cozy alcoves to bright open ballrooms. All original rooms within the historic Westeel Building (circa 1919), each room is unparalleled in its unique architectural personality

Built in 1912 by Sir James Lougheed, the historic GRAND theatre, soon became the home for arts organizations in Calgary. Our town’s first theatre, opera, ballets & concerts were performed here. Today, the GRAND theatre houses a variety of event spaces perfect for a unique wedding.

why book with the commons?

ample time to set up and take down

For our largest rooms, The Hemingway Room & The Flanagan Theatre, we give you 2-day access starting at 8am to 11am the next morning, which gives you ample time to set up and take down the following morning - no one wants to clean up after the night of their lives!

Services built into the rental

We provide many of the basic components from which you can design your wedding such as furniture, A/V equipment, staff and many day-of needs, so you can focus on the details that will make your day special.

Venue Coordinator

As part of your experience, we include a day-of Venue Coordinator who is available to greet your guests and vendors, manage the venue, and work with your team to assist with room flips.

No corkage fee!

One highlight of our space is that we don’t charge a corkage fee - which means you can bring in your own alcohol - often a huge cost-savings for your day.

To compliment our unique venues, we have a variety of services you may want to consider for your Big Day. From custom styling and design to a more D.I.Y. approach, our packages are customizable for your every need. We know our venues intimately so why not take advantage of our expertise and add-on services such as wedding coordination, bar service, a patio, extra rooms, additional access and furniture, all for a fraction of the cost of outside vendors.

Day-AFTER access

Want to pick up things tomorrow? We do ask that you take everything with you at the end of your event, but also understand that things happen! If you require access to our space the day after. $125 per hour of additional access.

Bar Services

We don’t charge a corkage fee, which can be a huge savings for you! We also work with some incredible vendors that provide exceptional bar services, custom cocktails, speciality kegs and more! Ask us for details.

Vendor SOurcing

Our team has screened and secured vendor partners that we know will provide exceptional, tailored services for you – from catering, to florists, to photographers. We’ve done the leg work in cultivating these relationships and we are excited for you to reap the rewards.

Additional Rooms

With rooms available for cocktail hour while the main room is being flipped from ceremony to reception, to bridal suite options, to rooms that can be used for child care so parents can enjoy your wedding worry-free. We have spaces that suit your every need.

Day-before access

Reduce the stress on the day of your wedding! Particularly appealing to couples who are doing the set up themselves, this option allows you access to set up your room the day before. $125 per hour of additional access.

Furniture rentals

We have a variety of furniture and decor items for rent at a fraction of the price of many third-party companies.

Day-of Support - Reception Only

Starting at $1,100

This package is for the D.I.Y. bride who has it all planned and organized but wants to relax on the big day. We will take care of all the small details on your wedding day, from coordinating full set up and take down of reception tables, chairs, linens and personal decor.

Partial SUPPORT & styling - Ceremony & Reception 

Starting at $3,000

This package offers assistance to bring your vision to life! By developing room layouts and styling the room to your specifications – we’ll ensure the foundational steps to make your wedding a success. We’ll also be present at your rehearsal and be onsite throughout the wedding day as venue support - assisting guests, vendors and timelines.

This package also includes access 1-2 business days prior to the wedding for a ceremony rehearsal, full ceremony rehearsal, ceremony set up, room flip from Ceremony to Reception, set up of all personal items. As well as take down at the end of the night - includes garages, bottles, tables, chairs etc. 

Full coordination & design

Starting at $4,000

We’re there for you from beginning to end! We’ll take care of all the details - from sourcing and coordinating with your vendors, to designing the room flow and styling, to putting the finishing touches so your personality is weaved throughout the day. We take care of all set up, take down and room flips and will be onsite for your Big Day to greet guests and manage the timeline so nothing slips through the cracks. 

This package also includes access 1-2 business days prior to the wedding for a ceremony rehearsal, full ceremony rehearsal, ceremony set up, room flip from Ceremony to Reception, set up of all personal items. As well as take down at the end of the night - includes garages, bottles, tables, chairs etc. 

preferred vendors

Catering

We have a list of preferred catering companies, meaning we can attest to their wonderful product and service. However, if you have your heart set on a different provider, we do allow caterers outside of this list for a buy-out fee ($4-8/person depending on food service).

TECH

Most venues have in-house tech such as lighting, sound and projection. This includes mircophones, speakers and a few other things to enhance your experiene. 

However, DJ services or live music are not included. Confirm with your DJ on what equipment they can provide.
